Somewhere or other on the Internet, I first heard of the cake ball phenom. Little balls of cake surrounded by candy coating. Yum! I was told that they were "ridiculously easy to make". LIES!!! I've just spent three hours making these! Perhaps I'm just slow, though because there are very few steps in the recipe.
1. Bake a cake
2. Crumble said cake into tiny little pieces/crumbs.
3. Combine crumbled cake with 3/4 of a cup of frosting.
4. Make 48 quarter size balls out of the resulting mixture.
5. Stick the balls in the freezer for 15 minutes.
6. Use the microvave to melt candy coating in the flavour of your choice - I recommend Candiquik coating.
7. Dip the cake balls into the coating. Use a spoon. And don't worry if it's not perfectly smooth. It will dry into a nice smooth coat.
8. Set the dipped balls on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper.
9. Sprinkle with sprinkles if you're into that stuff!
10. Voila.
I'm not actually a big cake person. So I ate two and now am left with 46 cake balls. Hope my colleagues enjoy them!
huh. very cool. hadn't heard of cake balls before. it'd be a really great way to deal with smitten kitchen's car bomb cupcakes -- they involve cutting a hole out of the cupcakes after they're baked, and then either eating or discarding the holes. i was trying to think of a way to bake the cupcakes with a placeholder for the hole to not waste the cake, but this would be much easier. although it wouldn't yield 48 balls, but that could sometimes be a good thing?

No offense, but if there's a facebook like button, it'll be much easier for me to share.
