Fact: the Immaculate Conception has nothing to do with Jesus

What? I hear you saying. The immaculate conception has nothing to do with Jesus? Poor misguided Ferd. But in fact, it is you fair reader, who is misguided as I was a few short hours ago until I discovered that the Immaculate Conception does not refer to the Virgin Birth of Jesus, but instead to refers to the fact that Mary was born with out the stain of original sin. And the whole doctrine dates back to 1854? Isn't that nuts? You can read about it in this wikipedia article. (Don't worry, i double-checked with other more reliable sources). Does that not blow your mind? It blows my mind. Perhaps I am merely uninformed, but still...

Lent

Sigh, Ash Wednesday means it's lent, until easter and what does that mean? Well, the Christians in the crowd may be giving stuff up for Lent. Honestly, I'm not even sure how this works, and most of what I do know I picked up from the movie "Chocolat". Sigh, eternal fires of damnation, here I come. Anyways, I thought this year, I would give up something for Lent, partly to be closer to God, partly because I think it will be edifying regardless of the religious implications in a "Pascal's Wager" sort of way. Anyways, the thing I am giving up is...celebrity gossip !! Basically, I will not be logging on to Perez HIlton, Ohnotheydidn't, Defamer or any of their ilk. While I have, in the past year, succesfully weaned myself of US Weekly, I will refrain from even flicking through the pages of US and its gossip brethren for the next 40 days. I will update you all on my progress. Wish me luck !
