Oh, it's not the end of television. I am exaggerating. But lately, TV has not been getting me excited, the way it often did in the past. The way I couldn't wait for a new episode of the West Wing or Friends or Party of Five, many many moons ago. Now I can miss wekkes and weeks of a certain show and feel limited sadness.
To be fair, I think this is owing to the fact that nowadays, you can always watch a show you missed online or on DVD at some later date. So the immediacy, the "I need to be home for this" feeling is totally gone.
That said, there i still a lot of excellent TV out there. Homeland, Mad Men etc...I really like all of them.
One more to add to the list is "Les revenants" (Sundance Channel in English as "The Returned", ARTV channel en français.) It's about a village in France where a few dead people are resurrected. No one knows why they are alive again, or why these people get to live again and not others. One day, they just show up in the village walking around. A young teenager who died in a bus crash. A young man who committed suicide the day before his wedding. A serial killer who was murdered by his own brother.
At first, they and their families try to keep them hidden and nobody asks too many questions, but then...
Anyways, I suggest you check it out. Eight episodes in the first season. Very good, with an actually interesting mystery at its core. Puts me in mind of the glory days of Lost, mystery with really good character development.
